Culture - The Cardinian Embroidery Project
The Cardinian Embroidery was officially launched on 13 November 2006 and is now proudly on display at the Cardinia Culture Centre.
The project was a community arts project funded by VicHealth and Cardinia Shire Council with the aim of bringing together people from all over the shire to share their skills and work together whilst producing a unique work of art that contributes to local heritage.
The project took two years and two months to complete and 384 features of local significance were embroidered by 218 women and one man. A further 1856 residents, families and friends added their stitches to the canvas name panels.
The eight panels each measure 190cm in height and 140cm in width. These panels represent groups of neighbouring towns in the shire and depict features which are considered significant by local residents. The Cardinia Embroidery reflects the character of the Shire as seen by the residents who made the work in 2005.
The Cardinian Embroidery is located in the foyer of the Cardinia Cultural Centre. For confirmation of opening times, telephone the Cardinia Cultural Centre
