Public Artworks - Oceanic Endless
Oceanic Endless is a unique combination of soundscape and visual art which transforms the architectural wave of Cardinia Life. The wave-like entrance now constantly reminds us of water renewal in the natural environment and the human consumption of natural resources. You hear the sudden power of blowholes, the delicate tracings of rivulets, the arrival of rain and the directional rush of a waterfall. On the underside of the ceiling, branches of a tree extend into water channels, each ending with an enlarged droplet suspended from the curved ceiling. Visitors are invited to move around the space and experience the striking audio effects produced by the sound travelling across the curved ceiling.
Sonia Leber and David Chesworth have collaborated since 1996, creating unique sound installations for a diverse range of art institutions and public spaces. Public artworks include permanent sound installations for Sydney Olympic Park and along William Barak Bridge in Melbourne for the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Leber and Chesworth are the recipients of the 2007 Helen Macpherson Smith Commission at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art. Simeon Nelson collaborated with Leber and Chesworth to create the visual design for the Commonwealth Games commission and is represented in numerous national and international collections.
