Exhibition statement:

Local artist, Anne Taylor, debuts her first solo exhibit with a collection of thoughtful pastel paintings.

Purely Pastel is a snapshot at an extensive body of work, and though it is an exhibit with a refined focus, it still manages to showcase a certain vastness. This is evidenced not only in the way the capacity of the medium has been pushed and explored, but also how the expansive beauty of natural landscapes has been captured.

Anne Taylor’s love of pastel paintings and her practice has been framed and put on display for the community.

Artist statement:
Regular Hills Hub Emerald U3A participant, Anne Taylor, describes herself as a hobby artist but only when she stops gardening for long enough to paint.

Anne is a retired Primary, Special Education and Adult Migrant teacher. Following her career in education, she decided to once again take up art and discovered the delight of pastel painting,  particularly landscapes and portraits.

Anne admires and has been influenced by the work of American artists such as John Singer Sargent, Harley Brown, and Carole Katchen, as well as the French, Dutch, and Australian Impressionists like Tom Roberts, Arthur Streeton, and Frederick McCubbin.

Anne has exhibited in many art shows and has received numerous awards. She has also sold many of her works, which now live in the USA, Germany, and all around Australia. She is especially proud of the time she was invited to contribute a portrait for Melba’s Marvellous Melbourne, an exhibition held in honour of Dame Nellie Melba’s 150th birthday celebration in May 2011.

Anne was the Secretary and Editor of the newsletter of The Pastel Society of Victoria for many years, a member of Sherbrooke Art Society, and Emerald Art Society. In 2010, Anne was awarded an Honorary Life Membership of The Pastel Society of Victoria for her extraordinary services to the Society.

Anne honours this legacy with her first solo exhibition featuring a fabulous collection of her pastel paintings.
